What’s the role?
We are looking for a Staff Product Manager to join our Payments team and lead the engineering team focused on the end to end tax experience and compliance strategy for Etsy’s global marketplace. The Payments team at Etsy is a large group committed to crafting and maintaining a resilient, streamlined, and scalable payments platform for buyers, sellers and Etsy globally. Available in 52 countries, Etsy Payments enables buyers and sellers to transact in 21 currencies and offers a number of different methods to pay for items on our site.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Group Product Manager, Payments. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

What’s this team like at Etsy?
The Payments team is a critical group within Etsy. One of its core responsibilities is accurately collecting and remitting tax on behalf of Etsy's customers in the markets that we operate. To perform this role, Etsy also needs to collect and verify tax information from sellers while providing them with accurate tax reporting capabilities to support their tax filings. In this role, you’ll partner with an engineering team as well as cross-functional partners to create and implement a tax compliance strategy to meet these obligations while minimizing friction for Etsy’s buyers and sellers across the marketplace.
What does the day-to-day look like?
- Partner with engineering, analytics, design, and other teams (Tax, Accounting, Finance, etc) to define and prioritize the highest impact projects.
- Develop, own, and manage the roadmap for the tax team.
- Communicate plans and commitments to partners on an ongoing cadence.
- Drive the squad's execution by collaborating closely with engineering and analytics partners, having ownership over the performance (and measurement) of the team’s product and operational experiences, including impact to the business and our customers.
- Integrate analysis and customer feedback into product requirements to ensure products satisfy customer needs, as well as wants.
- Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- 3+ years of experience leading product initiatives.
- Familiar with using qualitative and quantitative data to make product decisions. You also know when and how to balance data with intuition.
- Knowledge of tax platforms and/or related vendor integrations is a strong plus.
- Passionate about solving real customer problems. You are an advocate for the needs of customers and work to minimize any negative impacts to the customer experience.
- Natural collaborator who knows how to drive decision-making with Engineering, Product Design, and analytics.

We are looking for a Staff Product Manager to lead our Search Retrieval team.
You’ll partner with a dedicated cross-functional team including product, engineering, applied science, analytics, and research. You’ll develop and deliver a customer-centric product strategy that ensures we deliver the best and relevant search experience for our buyers.

What’s this team like at Etsy?
Search Retrieval is a machine learning team under Search Relevance sub-initiative that strives to improve relevancy of search results for Etsy buyers across the globe. We apply the latest techniques from machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and information retrieval research at Etsy’s scale. Here is a taste of some of the problems we are solving:
- Use lexical and neural retrieval models to improve search relevance while also considering cross-border trades, nuances on different markets and query understanding.
- Work closely with fellow ML engineers, backend engineers, scientists, and product managers to develop & test large scale experiments to improve relevance.
- Ensure ML models meet buyer standards, latency SLAs at the scale of Etsy production traffic and launch live A/B experiments to test our hypotheses.
- Co-organize research/paper-reading group to stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in search technologies, information retrieval, and machine learning to guide team strategy and innovation.
What does the day-to-day look like?
- Lead product strategy and roadmap definition for the team.
- Collaborate across functions (Analytics, Design, Engineering, Research) to identify, prioritize, define, and execute on the right areas that will improve outcomes for customers and drive business impact for Etsy.
- Collaborate within the Search org and more widely across Etsy to drive forward Etsy’s global strategy on Retrieval.
- Contribute to team culture, health, and team success by identifying, advocating for, and taking action on areas of improvement.
- Analyze product performance metrics, gather user feedback, and champion improvements to enhance buyer experience and product effectiveness.
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- You have 5+ years of Product Management or comparable experience.
- Proven experience in information Retrieval space
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally; explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- You have worked with Machine Learning engineers to prioritize, build, evaluate, and launch ML driven product solutions that address customer needs and deliver business impact.
- You are team oriented, collaborative, and committed to facilitating the contribution of diverse perspectives and skills to achieve the best possible outcomes.
- You are deeply customer focused and connect customer needs to business outcomes when finding opportunities for the team.
- You consistently use data and insights to identify the right path forward and make decisions that increase return on our investments.
