Senior Assistant Methanol Operations

JOB SUMMARY

The Methanol Department continues to expand its business portfolio and presence within the methanol industry. It operates across four key segments: (1) Methanol Distribution in North America, (2) Methanol Trading and Positioning, (3) Ocean Vessel Operations, and (4) Project Development and Latin American Business Opportunities.

The Senior Assistant, Methanol Operations plays a critical role in supporting trading activities and ensuring customer and supplier satisfaction, while maintaining compliance with internal protocols. This role is responsible for logistics coordination and documentation management for bulk methanol shipments. The position requires strong relationship management with customers and colleagues to ensure smooth operations.

The department moves approximately 500K MT of product annually in the U.S. using a complex logistics network, including more than 100 truckloads per month, over 200 leased and owned railcars, five storage facilities, and three transload points.

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in documentation handling (e.g., BLs, invoices, disbursements, debit/credit notes, payment orders, billing, and collections). They will maintain control records of inbound/outbound shipments, coordinate inventories, and input data accurately into the SAP system. Proactive problem-solving and payment collection are key, as are strong collaboration and teamwork skills to ensure seamless operations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Servicing delivery to customers in North America, shipping out from diverse locations.
  • Contact customers to monitor demand and process Purchase Orders.
  • Communicate with internal sales team regarding delivery schedule, pricing and inventory.
  • Maintain close coordination between customers and sales team to guarantee smooth deliveries and adjusted demand.
  • Arrange delivery by negotiating and contracting Truck logistics. Barges, and rail may be required too.
  • Arrange delivery including carrier selection/contracting and rate negotiation.
  • Prepare shipping documents and instructions.
  • Track transaction costs/expenses and resolves delivery-related issues that may arise during the process.
  • Arrange shipment documentation and accounting accrual on SAP system, as well as Excel control sheets.
  • Monitor inventory movements, keeping accurate and on-time tracking of inbound and outbound flow.
  • Ensure payment of freight, demurrage and other logistics costs.
  • Responsible for invoicing, payment and money collection. Track credit exposure of each customer and report findings to sales team.
  • Process payments for rail freight services. Ensure timely and accurate payments, resolve discrepancies, and maintain thorough records of all transactions
  • Process Bills of Lading (BOLs), orders, and related information for month-end invoicing. Handle the invoicing process for all shipped orders.
  • Customer Service to satisfy their needs on top of regular delivery service.
  • Other general administrative duties.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Years of Experience: 
Relevant Experience:
  • Computer skills including Excel and other Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of SAP input as well as company regulations especially for internal control requirement.
  • Effective communication, including writing, speaking and interpersonal communication.
  • Quick critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Good collaboration and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

COMPENSATION

The expected base salary for this Houston, Texas, United States-based position is $57,371.60-$ $71,303.49. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in the company’s short-term incentive program. Compensation decisions are dependent on the specific details and circumstances of each hire, such as experience, skills, and education.

Our company offers a hybrid schedule working in-office three days a week and remotely for the rest for most positions. Our in-office time is used primarily for team meetings and formal and informal collaboration.
