Junior Risk Analyst

Mission:
Perform risk analysis and trade product control within the Market Risk Team along with the Senior Analyst and the Head of Risk.
Outcomes - the successful candidate will:
- Learn quickly and develop expertise in Commodity Risk Management.
- Identify and solve problems, independently and with the strong support of the team when needs be.
- Stay focused on the details and learn to see the big picture as well.
- Work themself out of a job. Simplify and streamline daily tasks to free up time for other work.
The key competencies the successful candidate should have:
- Math: Ability to analyse and interpret complex data sets, perform risk calculations, and apply statistical methods to identify patterns and trends.
- Coding: Proficiency in coding, particularly with Python, to manipulate and analyse large datasets, automate processes, and develop tools for risk analysis.
- Commodity Trading: Understanding of the fundamentals of commodity trading, including market dynamics, pricing mechanisms, and risk management practices. Familiarity or keen interest in oil trading is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills: Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts and risk analysis results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Continuous improvement mindset: Meticulousness in ensuring accuracy and completeness of data and reports. Ability to identify errors, discrepancies, and anomalies, and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Analytical mindset: Strong problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and the capacity to apply analytical techniques to support decision-making and improve risk management processes.
- Team player: Collaborative nature, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment, liaising with multiple stakeholders, and managing priorities in a fast-paced trading environment.
To deliver the above the successful candidate will carry out the following actions:
- Trade Product Control: Execute trade product control activities, including verifying and reconciling physical and derivative trades, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- ETRM System Management: Manage data in the ETRM system (Allegro Horizon), ensuring accurate and up-to-date information on trades, positions and risk metrics. Troubleshoot system issues and liaise with IT support when needed.
- Risk Reporting: Assist the risk analyst in producing daily risk reports, including exposure analysis, scenario analysis, and risk metrics calculations. Ensure timely and accurate delivery of reports to traders, management, and regulatory bodies.
- Risk Analysis: Collaborate with the risk analyst to identify and analyse risk exposures, develop risk mitigation strategies, and assess the impact of market factors on trading positions. Utilise mathematical and statistical techniques to evaluate risk and support decision-making.
- Communication: Provide value-added information and insights to traders and management through clear and concise written and verbal communication. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as trading, operations and finance, to gather relevant information and ensure a comprehensive risk assessment.
- Coding: Develop and maintain robust and scalable code to support data analysis, risk modelling, and automation tasks, ensuring high quality and efficient execution.
Key technical criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as finance, mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline.
- Prior experience in risk analysis, commodity trading, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- -Proficient in coding languages such as Python, VBA, R, SQL, and MATLAB, with a demonstrated ability to write clean and efficient code for data analysis and automation purposes.
Fluent in English. French is also advantageous.
This role will based in Geneva or Dubai.
