Qatar Chemical Company Ltd (Q-Chem)
Qatar Chemical Company Ltd. (Q-Chem) is a Qatari company owned by Mesaieed Petrochemical Holding Company Q.S.C. (MPHC) 49%, Chevron Phillips Chemical International Qatar Holdings LLC (Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar) 49%, and QatarEnergy 2%.
The Q-Chem facility is a world-class integrated petrochemical plant producing high-density and medium-density polyethylene (HDPE & MDPE), 1-hexene and other products.
Q-Chem, Located in Mesaieed Industrial City, began commercial operations in 2004 and has a production capacity of 453,000 metric tons per annum (MTA) of polyethylene and a 1-hexene unit with a production capacity 47,000 MTA. The complex also consists of sulfur recovery and solidification plant, a water treatment plant, seawater cooling system, dock facilities and administrative buildings.
Qatar Chemical Company II Ltd (Q-Chem II)
Following the outstanding performance of the first Q-Chem plant production, profitability, and safety, our far-sighted founders embarked on a new 2 billion USD project called Q-Chem II. Constructed adjacent to the Q-Chem plant in Mesaieed Industrial City, the Q-Chem II facility takes advantage of economies of scale to produce 350,000 MTA of HDPE and introduced the first full range Normal Alpha Olefins (NAO) unit with a production capacity 345,000 MTA.
Q-Chem II is a joint venture between MPHC 49%, Chevron Phillips Chemical Qatar 49%, and QatarEnergy 2%. The plant began commercial operations in 2010 and has raised the Q-Chem HDPE production capacity by 77 percent from 453,000 MTA to 803,000 MTA to meet the increasing demand of customers in Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Ras Laffan Olefins Company Ltd (RLOC)
Ras Laffan Olefins Company Ltd (RLOC) is a Qatari company, 53.31%-owned by Q-Chem II and 45.69% -owned by Qatofin Company Limited (Q.S.C.) (Qatofin) and QatarEnergy 1%. RLOC constructed a world-class 1.3 million MTA ethylene cracker unit which was inaugurated in 2010. The cracker is operated by Q-Chem I
Qatar Chemical Company
Job Purpose
Is the project's resolute representative from the Technical Organization throughout the life of the project and shall function as an integral part of the project team. Actions must be consistent with the project economics and support the project execution plan. Provide input during the FEED, Detail Design, Construction and Startup phases of the project.
Key Accountabilities
Design Responsibilities
- Lead project team through all aspects of technology selection, design basis, and process design.
- Provides input and leads the review of contractor design of PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, heat and energy material balances, design of new chemicals, process design, etc.
- Ensure design has appropriate Advance Process Control System tools incorporated for process
- optimization.
- Review and provide feedback on designs, equipment selections, and construction plans with other project team members.
- Participate in project HAZOPs, alarm objective analysis, and project MOC HSE evaluations after HAZOP.
- Leads process control, interlock, shutdown logic, DCS graphical display, alarm display design.
- Review and approve necessary operations procedures and training from a project process perspective to include normal operation, startup, shutdown, environmental limits, and emergency shutdown.
- Participate in the MOC process by providing technical inputs and evaluating recommendations to ensure operational feasibility and compliance to safety standards.
- Arrange process-related expert consulting services as needed.
- Coordinate all project economic studies with QChem Strategy Group.
Construction Responsibilities
- Be a resource to construction team on overall plant design and philosophy.
- Follow all tower tray revamps, tower packing changes, and Catalyst changes to ensure meet process design quality requirements.
- Document as-found conditions for project interfaces with existing operating equipment.
- Participates in PSSR and final acceptance of constructed facilities from contractor.
Startup Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe startup by following tenets, all company and plant procedures, and using available technical resources.
- Participate as startup team to ensure the plant is operating as designed and debugged.
- Develop plan and test plant nameplate capacity and design limits to ensure successful commercial operation is possible and document results.
Safety in Design
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA and QChem safety codes/standards/procedures during design and engineering of equipment.
Policies, Systems, Processes and Procedures
- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for the continuous improvement of departmental systems, policies, processes, and practices taking into account ‘international leading practices’ in order to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
- Provide critical input to support the development of Equipment Reliability Section’s systems, policies, processes, and procedures in order to meet business requirements.
- Ensure team members comply with all Equipment Reliability Section’s policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is conducted in a controlled and consistent manner.
Quality, Health, Security, Safety and Environment
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and relevant quality, health, safety, security and environmental procedures and controls across Equipment Reliability Section to guarantee employee safety and delivery of high-quality products/services.
Reporting
- Prepare relative reports in a timely and accurate manner in order to meet the departmental requirements, policies, and standards.
Qatarization
- Contribute to the development of Qatari employees. This accountability is applicable to expatriate employees only
Qualifications & Experience
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical/ Electrical / Mechanical/ Civil).
Preferred: Master Degree in Engineering (Chemical/ Electrical / Mechanical/ Civil).
Experience
Required: 5-7 years of experience in the O&G Industry.
Preferred: Similar experience in Petrochemicals Industry.
